Mechanical Engineering

 

Introduction

 

Both Production Technology (PT) and Refrigeration and Air Conditioning (RAC) have shown significant advances in recent years. In particular, the application of new materials, electronic and computer aided control of mechanical manufacturing and process technology (CAD/CNC/CAM) have improved to cope with global technological developments. These improvements are a prerequisite to enhance the competitiveness of Cambodia’s economy. From SS 2014 onwards Automotive Engineering will be introduced as a new training program.

The state-of-the-art training programs of the Department of Mechanical Technology will enable qualified graduates to pursue a career as vocational trainer in this continuously growing field. The latter semesters of the programs provide students with more advanced training in their field of specialization.

 

Training programs

 

 Our Department of Mechanical Technology offers the following training programs:

  • Students of Production Technology are introduced to conventional machining technology, forming technology, welding technology, machine elements, electrical power and control circuits. Within their specialization, students will learn fundamental aspects of production technology and develop technical expertise about the function, application, maintenance and repair of manufacturing systems. Other major topics are quality control with software application, advanced metrology, heat treatment and material testing, combined forming and production and advanced manufacturing. During the last semester, each trainee will plan and conduct a Bachelor's project in a relevant field.

 

  • Students of Refrigeration and Air Conditioning are taught subjects like thermodynamics, technical drawing CAD, RAC system components configuration, psychometrics, electrical power and electrical control circuits, (non-) detachable joints and heat transfer, cooling energy needs. Within their specialization, students will learn fundamental aspects of refrigeration and air conditioning and develop technical expertise about the function, application and troubleshooting and preventive maintenance& repair of RAC systems. Other major topics are hydrodynamics and aerodynamics, performance inspection and redesign, advanced air conditioning system (re-) design and combined joining and RAC control system. During the last semester, each trainee will plan and conduct a Bachelor's project in a relevant field.

 

  • Students of Automotive Technology are taught subjects like engine and drivetrain technology, material science, machine elements in motor vehicles, thermo-fluid dynamics, fundamentals of engines, electric and electronic automotive systems and all comfort and safety systems like steering, suspension, brake and climate control systems. The students will learn basics and in detail how the systems work together through an On-Board-Data Bus system. On all systems the students will develop experience in troubleshooting and diagnosing according given maintenance procedures from genuine automotive manufactures. During the later semesters, each student will bring in their technical expertise and experience in an automotive engineering project as a team. With the Bachelor project in a relevant field  and information about alternative and new developments in the automotive world the students will finish an ambitious and innovative study program on newest technology and standards.

 

Characteristics of the training programs

 

Training programs in Production Technology (PT) and Refrigeration and Air Conditioning (RAC) share several identical training modules in the respective vocational fields during the first three semesters. These involve primarily vocational pedagogy and English classes, but also technical courses such as mechanics, materials and technical drawing.
